HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR JOMA SHOE SIZE

If you have not had the pleasure of wearing a pair of JOMA shoes we’ve got a few different exercises we suggest you work through to figure out which size will fit you best before you make your selection. In general JOMA shoes sit on the larger size of the fence, so don’t be surprised if you end up selecting a half or even a full size lower than you were expecting.

It’s also important to note that JOMA don’t run different sizes for Standard and Women’s styles so these sizing exercises will be appropriate for all JOMA shoes regardless of colour scheme.

Comparing Sizes Across Different Brands

An easy first step to get a sense of which size you might start with is to check what size you are in another Brand of shoes that you already have in your cupboard. You need to keep a few things in mind if you are going to rely on this exercise:

  • Make sure the shoes you are using for comparison fit you correctly. This can be a big problem with junior Football boots. It's very common for players to up their size to fit their feet into narrow shoes. Double check the shoes fit properly, both length and width, before you make any comparisons.
  • Use the newest shoes you have. Provided they fit you correctly, a newer pair of shoes will have more accurate dimensions for comparison purposes. As you wear your shoes their materials will relax and change shape, especially if your foot is still growing. This will effect your perception of size.

ADIDASA full size smaller. A US9 in ADIDAS is similar to a US8 in JOMA
NIKEA half size smaller. A US9.5 in NIKE is similar to a US9 in JOMA
PUMAA full size smaller. A US9 in PUMA is similar to a US8 in JOMA

The JOMA Method

  1. Place a sheet of paper on the floor against a wall.
  2. Put on your playing sock and stand with your heel against the wall with your foot on the paper.
  3. Get a helper to trace around your toes, holding the pen vertical. Don’t do this yourself as you will shift your weight forward as you lean over and change to position of your foot.
  4. Measure the length of your longest foot from heel to tow in millimetres and compare with the table below to get your JOMA shoe size – Next Player uses the US size code.

The Old Shoe Method

You need a small, flexible metal tape measure to use this method – one like the 2 metre long one shown here is ideal. Do not use the bigger and longer builders versions, as they may not be able to reach the inside tip of the shoe because of their over-sized end fittings.

Put the tape inside the shoe up to the toe, but don’t push to hard and bow the tape up as this will give you a false length reading. Run the tape down to the heel and curve it up while keeping contact with the back of the shoe and note down the length reading (in millimetres) in the middle of the tape bend – this is your MAXIMUM foot length. Compare this length with the JOMA Sizing table above to choose your JOMA size.

The shoe below has a measurement of 269-270 millimetres at mid bend, making it a JOMA US:8.5 size.
